Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP)
Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMPs) were established in the Food and Drug Administration's Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs) 25 years ago. CGMPs are the basic rules designed to help ensure the safe and sanitary manufacturing, processing and holding of food for human consumption. CGMPs form the basis for all food safety assurance programs in food manufacturing facilities. CGMPs also set the agency expectations for compliance with the Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA), in particular Section 402(a)(4), which indicates that a food is adulterated if it is prepared, packed or held under unsanitary conditions whereby it may have become contaminated with filth or been rendered injurious to health.
