The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) draft guidance for industry voluntary targets for sodium creates short term (two years) and long term (10 years) targets for average and upper limits for sodium concentrations in commercially processed, packaged, and prepared foods. Veronica Colas of AFFI’s legal counsel, Hogan Lovells US LLP, will provide an overview of FDA’s draft guidance and its basis for the targets FDA applies to 150 food categories, many of them containing frozen products. Emma Gregory, from the American Frozen Food Institute, will explain some of the technical and scientific aspects of sodium reduction, and how AFFI plans to address the draft guidance.
