Outbreaks in the food industry are never welcome, but they can provide valuable insights that can be used to prevent future incidents. A 2015 outbreak involved Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) contamination in the icecream industry. In response to this outbreak, one effective decontamination method facilities used was the application of chlorine dioxide gas to eliminate Lm.
